Moiré Gallery Milano, a renowned concept store and art hub located at Via Borgonuovo 5 in Milan, is set to unveil its latest exhibition, “SERICO,” during the Milan Design Week 2024. Building upon the success of its previous showcase, “Journey through the history of silk,” this new exhibition promises to further explore the diverse realms of silk, extending its reach into the realms of design and furniture.

“SERICO,” curated by Moiré Gallery Milano’s founder, Ouafa Tahoun, serves as both a culmination and a new beginning, delving into the myriad facets of silk through a captivating dialogue between fashion, art, and now, furniture and design. Tahoun describes the exhibition as a deep dive into the infinite variations of silk, with a particular focus on moiré silk, known for its distinctive wavy and furrowed effect reminiscent of wood grain.

The centerpiece of “SERICO” includes exclusive creations such as Filippo Ghezzani’s bourette silk-covered poufs, crafted in collaboration with Asnaghi Tessuti, a historic workshop in Milan. Visitors can also admire the exquisite handmade silk carpets by Jaipur Rugs, which adorn the walls like ancient tapestries, alongside an upcycled silk chaise-longue designed exclusively for the exhibition.

The gallery walls come to life with stunning works by artists such as Tita and Narji-studio, featuring pieces like “Silk City,” “Georgette City,” and “Mikado City,” as well as a selection of works by Nicolas Denino, Simona Tavassi, and Arnaud Nazare-Aga. Paying homage to the world of fashion, “SERICO” showcases handcrafted kimonos by Tearose Milano and a curated collection of garments from renowned fashion houses like Luisa Beccaria, Valentino, Fendi, Hermès, and Irama de Flore.

Amidst this immersive setting, visitors are transported into a world of silk, elegance, and sophistication, as they explore the rich history and timeless allure of this ancient fabric. “SERICO” seeks to celebrate silk’s storied past, tracing its origins back to ancient China in 3000 BC, where legend has it that Empress Xi Ling Shi discovered the art of silk production.

As visitors embark on this silken journey, they are invited to reflect on the enduring legacy of silk, which has woven together cultures and civilizations across time and space. From the fabled expeditions of Marco Polo to the present day, silk continues to captivate and inspire, serving as a symbol of beauty, luxury, and cultural exchange.

“SERICO” invites art enthusiasts, fashion aficionados, and design connoisseurs alike to experience the timeless allure of silk in a captivating exhibition that promises to enchant and inspire. The exhibition opens its doors to the public on April 15, 2024, inviting visitors to embark on a journey through the rich tapestry of silk’s history and heritage.
