Crew are required to undergo various types of training to meet the requirements for obtaining Certificates of Competency (CoCs). You must complete this training at an MCA-approved training provider to obtain an MCA CoC.

The MCA has agreed on course criteria guidelines that satisfy the requirements of the STCW Code for training delivered by training providers undertaken in the UK or elsewhere.

On the MCA website, you can find lists of schools that have been approved by MCA to deliver training under MCA in the United Kingdom and Overseas.

For the first time, the MCA now also shares Training centres providing Deck Yacht modules other than the Small Vessel Engineering modules and ancillary courses such as BasicAdvanced, and Refresher STCW training.

You can find the complete list here MCA approved training providers (ATP) – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Please note that the MCA accepts some STCW short courses from other maritime administrations, such as Malta, Italy, France, Spain, etc..

In fact, the MCA will accept Basic STCW training certificates issued under the authority of any IMO White List country.

The MCA will also accept Advanced STCW training certificates issued under the authority of any EU Member State as well as any country noted in MIN 643.

For more information, please see sections 4 and 5 of MIN 643.
