Global conflict to cost trillions; the US getting up to speed on maritime innovation; carbon capture and nuclear gain ground

Do I have your attention now?

The maritime industry is never dull, but this decade has seen it accelerate the disruption, innovation and change rivaling the transformation of Malcolm McLean’s container.  Every aspect is in play, as evidenced by our news this week:

Some say war is good, which I don’t agree due to its destruction and death.  With the new focus on shipping emissions, we are now also paying attention to the impacts on the environment.  Rates may be up for some sectors, but the cost is in the trillions.

The US government is recognizing the nation’s maritime vulnerabilities by authorizing MARAD to stand up a US Center for Maritime Innovation, which will be led by ABS.  This is a terrific way to get renowned American ingenuity applied to the maritime space.  Further evidence is in Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro’s efforts in “maritime statecraft”.

We are also seeing new developments in both the carbon capture and nuclear spheres.  While they address our need for decarbonization from two ends of the spectrum, they both need acceptance and adoption to meet our 2030 and 2050 goals.

These hot topics and more will be presented and discussed at SHIPPINGInsight 2024- Turning Good Ideas into Reality.  See you there!

Keep optimizing,
