MT Højgaard Denmark has just finished the third stage in securing the future of Rønne Havn. Future security supports the work to ensure security of supply to Bornholm.
The contractor MT Højgaard Denmark has completed and handed over the third stage of the future-proofing of the port in Rønne, which with an increased project area of 100,000 m2 helps to strengthen the port’s unique position in the Baltic Sea as the central shipping port for wind turbines.
The third stage is closely related to an overall climate and future-proofing of the island’s central business port, where there will also be an extension of the outer pier and improvement of navigation with a larger sway basin. Furthermore, securing the future consists of a new multi-purpose quay and a thorough deepening of the inner part of the harbour. Overall, securing the future of Rønne Harbor supports the overall security of supply to Bornholm and strengthens the port’s position as the island’s central commercial port.
“With the completion of stage 3, we have taken an important step in the work to strengthen the supply to Bornholm, while at the same time ensuring that we can continue the growth within the shipping of offshore wind from Bornholm by now being able to handle two simultaneous projects. It is therefore a big day for both Bornholm and Rønne Havn,” says Lars Nordahl, managing director at Rønne Havn A/S.
MT Højgaard has completed stage 3 completely according to schedule.
“When entering into the contract for stage 3, we knew that we would be under severe pressure in terms of time. We have been this way throughout the execution, but with a very good collaboration between the Port of Rønne, their advisor NIRAS, our advisor Rambøll and a skilled and dedicated project team at MT Højgaard Denmark, we have succeeded in delivering a great result on time. We can all be proud of that,” says Dan Harborg Locht, Project Director at MT Højgaard Denmark.
Securing the future has also benefited local businesses. In total, MT Højgaard has spent almost DKK 60 million. kroner locally on Bornholm on local subcontractors. In addition, employment of local labor is added.
