The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) UK & Ireland office, in collaboration with the trade magazine Travel Weekly, launched the inaugural Travel Weekly UK Inspiring Women Retreat Athens from 27 to 29 November 2024. This event celebrated women’s empowerment and highlighted Athens and the Athenian Riviera as prime city break destinations for all seasons.

Highlights of the Retreat

  • Keynote Speech by Elizabeth Filippouli: Attendees were inspired by the founder of the Global Thinkers Forum, who shared her insights on leadership, transparency, and responsibility.
  • Intrepid Travel City Tour: Participants explored the hidden gems of Athens’ historic center, guided by a female expert from Intrepid Travel.
  • The Story of The Dolli: Mrs. Mari Daskalantonaki, the owner, shared the fascinating story behind the creation of The Dolli.
  • One&Only Aesthesis Pampering: The luxurious One&Only Aesthesis in Glyfada welcomed guests with a Guerlain touch, offering an indulgent and relaxing experience.
  • Authentic Greek Cuisine: A gastronomic journey through local flavors was hosted at Ergon House, a destination celebrating Greek culinary traditions.
  • Engaging Lunch with GNTO President Angela Gerekou: The president shared her passion and vision for Greek tourism, captivating the audience with her leadership and innovative strategies.

A Celebration of Women and Collaboration

Collaboration was a central theme throughout the retreat, exemplified by its support for Greek women entrepreneurs. The event brought together leading women from the British travel industry, fostering partnerships and showcasing the best of Greece.

The retreat’s exclusive guest list included 30 decision-makers from top UK travel agencies, tour operators, cruise companies, and airlines, including Jet2, Kuoni, Celestyal Cruises, Princess Cruises, Travel Counsellors, Designer Travel, Advantage Travel Partnership, TTC Group, Intele Travel, Intrepid, and more.

Extending the Tourism Season

The retreat not only provided a platform for impactful networking but also demonstrated Athens’ potential as a year-round destination. The combination of cultural exploration and luxurious relaxation showcased the city’s versatility, positioning it as an ideal location for city breaks even in late autumn.
