Dimitris N. Monioudis, Managing Director of Rethymnis & Kulukundis Ltd and President of the Hellenic Engineers Society of Great Britain, having accepted the invitation of Professor Evangelos Markopoulos, delivered a Guest Lecture at Queen Mary University of London to a combined audience of School of Business and Management MSc in International Business and Masters of Laws – LLM, International Shipping Law students.

Mr Monioudis, in his INTERCARGO Technical Committee Chairman role, shared his personal experiences and focused his lecture on the global dry cargo shipping sector, its value to the prosperity of both developing and developed nations, seafarers as “key workers”, the international logistics chain and its resilience under the pressures of COVID as well as Black Sea and Red Sea regional hostilities.
The lively interaction with the next generation of business professionals moved on to recent geopolitical events and their impact on both maritime and global trade. Recently announced US related tariffs and counter measures to China’s ever developing shipbuilding capabilities were analysed in the context of both pure economic scenarios and national/international consequences, global GDP growth, the road to decarbonization and potential effects on both allies and competitor countries.

The lecture ended with the multi-ethnic student group (originating from across the globe including USA, Malta, Greece, India, UK and Taiwan) seeking to take commemorative photos and of course gain some advice as to their future career path options.
