Melina was awarded a First Class Honours Degree in Biomedical Science specialising in Anatomy and Developmental Biology from King’s College London, with a specialisation in Anatomy and Developmental Biology, Melina will now dedicate the next year to investigating the developmental origin and morphogenesis of the interosseous membrane, focusing on the SOX9 gene a key regulator in skeletal development and tissue formation.
From her early years, Melina knew she wanted to become a scientist. That conviction deepened during her father’s illness, shaping her decision to devote her life to research, with the hope of contributing to medical progress and human well-being.
“I am truly honoured and thankful to the Union of Greek Shipowners for their support,” Melina shares. “This scholarship is more than an opportunity, it is a message of trust and responsibility. Supporting young researchers means believing in the power of knowledge to shape a better world.”
