Starting on Saturday, July 19th from Faliro, the first stop is Finikas on Syros, the second is Lipsi, and finishing after seven days again at the picturesque port of Finikas, the historic Aegean Rally sets sail for the 62nd time this year.

It will be the first time in 60 years, back in 1965 and the second year of the Rally, that the water marathon will end in Syros. From 2008 onwards – and with the sole exception of 2017 with a finish in Skyros – the boats had their final destination in Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon.

Organized by the Panhellenic Offshore Sailing Club (POIATH) and in collaboration with the Hellenic Navy, with the race’s Major Sponsor being the ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group and sponsored by Mercedes BenzThe 62nd Aegean Rally promises strong sailing excitement this year over its 300 nautical miles of sailing.

Experienced skippers such as Yiannis Maragoudakis, Periklis Livas, Kostas Manthos, Giorgos Sykaris, Nikolaos Lykos and Christos Karydis are preparing to sail for another summer in the Aegean, proving that the Aegean Rally continues to be a point of reference and meeting place for the top Greek sailors on the high seas.

In the 62nd Aegean Rally , Olympian Kostas Manthos returns after a 15-year absence, who will participate with the boat ERYTOS II. “The Aegean Rally has always been in my heart and mind. Running in the Aegean Rally is something unique, something special. It is always a motivation for every sailor to participate in the Aegean Rally,” comments the experienced skipper who is throwing himself into the battle of the 62nd water marathon with his ten-member crew with the goal of “… winning, what else? Always when we run in the Rally, our goal is distinction, we are not satisfied with just participating. We will try to do that this year too,” he concludes.

The boats will begin their journey in the Aegean Sea on Saturday, July 19 (11:00) from Faliro with the first destination being Finikas Syros (distance 102 nautical miles). On Tuesday, July 22 (10:00) the 2nd Finikas Syros – Lipsi (92 nm) race is scheduled. On Thursday, July 24 (11:00) the 3rd local Mercedes-Benz Cup race will be held in Lipsi (15 nm). The fleet will depart from Lipsi for the 4th race ending in Finikas Syros on Friday, July 25 (11:00). During the crews’ stay, both in Syros and in Lipsi, social and cultural activities as well as local celebrations have been planned.
