The Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy is investigating all the circumstances of the accident, as the Captain did not inform, as he should have, the competent Authorities about the grounding of the R/G-D/R “Panagia Paravouniotissa”.
The ship sailed from the port of Nea Stira at 18:30, the grounding occurred at 18:50 and the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED) of the LS-EL.AKT Headquarters was informed by a citizen at 18:51.
The E.K.S.E.D., after repeated attempts, managed to contact the Captain by telephone at 19:01.
The local emergency plan was activated at 18:58 and the transfer of passengers began at 19:10 on private boats – under the coordination of the EKSED – as well as on the tender of PATH 090. A total of 5 private boats and an E/G-D/R ship were activated. PLS 1081 (Karystos L/C) arrived at the scene at 19:50, the tender of PATH 090 at 19:55, while at 20:00 PATH 090 arrived.
All passengers have been transferred to private boats and PATH 090 and have been safely transported to Nea Stira.
The incident did not cause any injuries and no marine pollution was observed. The competent Prosecutor’s Office has been informed by the Karystos Port Authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation.
