Global pop icon Mariah Carey made a triumphant return to the stage with a surprise performance in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, October 11, captivating fans not only with her legendary voice but also with a jaw-dropping fashion statement crafted by Thai royalty.
For this special performance — her first in Thailand in years — Carey wore a breathtaking custom gown designed by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. The piece was a standout from the Princess’s eponymous label, SIRIVANNAVARI, and represented a rare moment where global pop glamour met refined Thai craftsmanship on an international stage.
Inspired by a finale look from the Spring/Summer 2025 SIRIVANNAVARI runway collection, the gown was tailored specifically for Carey, using handwoven “look kaew” Thai silk in a rich magenta hue — a favorite color of the diva. The silk, sourced from the SUPPORT Foundation established by Thailand’s Queen Mother, speaks to a larger mission: preserving Thai heritage and empowering local women through traditional weaving arts.
As she belted out her final notes, the dress came alive. The rear of the gown featured an intricate floral structure, fluttering like a living bouquet under the lights. Thousands of hand-applied crystals, sequins, and beads shimmered with every movement, forming three-dimensional embroidery inspired by the “Dok Rak” — Thailand’s cherished floral garland symbolizing love and devotion. Hidden within the ornate needlework were the initials “MC,” a delicate personal touch sewn by artisans at the SIRIVANNAVARI Atelier & Academy.
Elevating her look further, Carey wore a stunning high jewelry necklace from the SIRIVANNAVARI x Beauty Gems collection. The piece, valued at over 100 million baht (around 3 million USD), featured rare pink Padparadscha sapphires surrounded by an array of precisely cut diamonds.
