From the monumental speech of WISTA International president Elpi Petraki opening the WISTA Conference in Barcelona, Spain. Her speech was beyond sending a powerful message that indeed is the collective commitment that gives WISTA its strength and drives the entire maritime community.
Given the strange situation all over Planet Ocean producing and enhancing uncertainty via the geopolitical and commercial / trading chaos, she referred to this year’s Nobel laureates in the Economic Services, who showed that progress often comes through creative destruction, “matching” our belief that “…if you don’t destroy you cannot rebuilt”, the well know ancient greek maxim!
All present were more fortunate to listen to her speech, given the voting outcome of the IMO MEPC on 17 October with the challenge of Decarbonisation process still in jeopardy, as well as the Digitalisation one in constructing / creating a better Planet Ocean.
The aspect of collective leadership was well and appropriately mentioned!
We heard interesting comments from the panel on Decarbonisation – see the picture below with excellent and well educated panellists/practicioners; an interesting round table so to speak.

We shall revert with more news soon.
