Chios Marine Club honors Mr. Theodoros Veniamis

Last Saturday, November 1st, 2025, Chios Marine Club hosted with great success an event in honor of Mr. Theodoros Veniamis, in “Argentiko Mansion’s Estate” in the island of Chios, Greece. Mr. Theodoros Veniamis, who served for thirteen consecutive years as President of the Union of Greek Shipowners, was honored by our Club in this historical, stately, and one of the most important monuments of cultural heritage on the island of Chios, which belonged to the aristocratic Genoese family of Argentis who arrived in Chios in the 14th century.

The event gathered a multitude of members of the shipping community, representatives of the local authorities and former classmates, who honored with their presence an outstanding Chiot and an outstanding personality of Greek and international shipping.

During the event, the President of the Chios Marine Club, Capt. Antonis Pitsilos, praised the many years of work and the significant contribution of Mr. Veniamis to the strengthening of Greek shipping, as well as his adherence to the values and traditions of the island of Chios.

The honorary plaque was presented to Mr. Theodoros Veniamis, by former NASA’s astrophysicist scientist and former president of the Athens Academy, Dr Stamatis Krimizis (see picture above).

The event was greeted by the Metropolitan of Chios, Psarra and Oinousses, Markos; Byron Tomazos also spoke about the history of the ‘’Argentiko Estate’’. The event also greeted by Marianna Pelanti, Director of the 2nd Elementary School of Panagia Erythiani, and Despoina Vlysidou, former Deputy Mayor of Homeroupolis (Vrontados). A theatrical play followed with young elementary school pupils who presented moments from his childhood and school years.

This theatrical performance was inspired and curated by Danae Bezantakou of Navigator Shipping Consultants Ltd (pictured above).

Mr. Theodoros Veniamis, expressed his gratitude for this honor and recognition. He also emphasized the importance of unity and continuity of the Greek Shipping Spirit.

The event concluded in a particularly warm and moving atmosphere, confirming the bond of Chios with the Shipping Industry and its people.
