The US Undersecretary of State for Economic Development, Energy and the Environment, Jacob Helberg, was met by the Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, in the context of the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of shipping and energy. After the meeting, Mr. Kikilias stated that “we are very happy and pleased to have with us Mr. Jacob Helberg, the newly appointed US Undersecretary of State for Economic Development, Environment and Energy. We will work closely, as both our governments do, based on our common interests. I was very happy to see that he is fully aware of the real needs of the market and the industry – in terms of shipping, energy, trade and development. I am sure that, this way, things work much better. We work together and try to find common ground. I believe that, during the energy meetings that will take place in the coming days, there will be important announcements and excellent cooperation. This is how we want to move forward. The Greek-owned fleet is the largest in the world and we will be very happy to move forward with commercial partnerships with the United States. It will be beneficial for the average Greek family and for the average American family. Thank you very much.”
For his part, Mr. Helberg noted that “we had an extremely constructive meeting, where we covered a wide range of topics – from shipbuilding to infrastructure investments, energy and IT infrastructure. We are excited to work with our ally and long-time partner, as well as with all our friends in Greece. We are also happy about the arrival of our new Ambassador and excited to begin a week that will demonstrate the full scope and depth of our relations with Greece.
