The American Bureau of Shipping hosted the 15th gathering of its Greek Technical Advisory Panel at the landmark Spyros Loverdos Foundation Library Fondazione, bringing together more than 40 top-level leaders from Greece’s shipping sector. Participants took part in stimulating discussions exploring innovative advances and critical obstacles influencing the maritime field’s trajectory.
Dr. Chris Leontopoulos, ABS Vice President for Technology across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, served as the Panel’s Chair and welcomed delegates alongside Dr. Elias Kariambas, ABS Vice President for Regional Business Development.
Throughout the proceedings:
• Maran Gas Management’s Technical Director, Andreas Spertos, showcased the Shaft Generator’s role in energy conservation
• Laurent Coleil, Marine Service Director, together with Dr. Mahdi Sallali, Marine Application Engineer—both representing GE Vernova—examined sophisticated electrical infrastructure for marine decarbonization efforts
• Managing Director of On Site Alignment, Arie Leeuwenburg, explored powertrain alignment obstacles encountered during shaft generator installations in both new vessel construction and vessel upgrades
• FEAC Engineering’s Theodoros Vasilopoulos, Director of Global Development for Marine & Offshore/Oil & Gas Energy, and Dr. Charilaos (Haris) Kokkinos, Technical Manager/Numerical Simulation Expert, investigated intelligent digital twins for eco-friendly hull optimization
• ABS Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Stamatis Fradelos, examined evolving regulations and their influence on the shipping industry
As the event concluded, a Greek Technical Panel survey encouraged attendees to share their viewpoints and expertise. Organized networking sessions additionally fostered partnership-building and information exchange throughout the sector.
