A team of women from across the maritime industry took to the streets of Piraeus on 31 May to participate in the 6th Posidonia Running Event, raising awareness and funds for seafarer welfare in partnership with The Seafarers’ Charity ahead of the wider Posidonia programme.
Representing a cross-section of the maritime community were Temi Binitie, Business Development Director at The Seafarers’ Charity; Zoe Upson, Founder of Women Together; Karen Martin of ShipMoney; Izzy Bishop of Vortexa; and Dr Joanna-Eugenia Bakouni of Maersk Training.

The initiative brought together professionals committed to supporting the wellbeing of seafarers and highlighting the vital role they play in global trade. It also shone a spotlight on the work of The Seafarers’ Charity, which funds a wide range of welfare programmes and services designed to improve the lives of seafarers and their families while helping to build a more resilient and sustainable maritime sector.
Reflecting on the event, Zoe Upson highlighted the positive atmosphere and sense of togetherness that characterised the day.
“It was a great day to kick off Posidonia events. Great community spirit in celebration of all things maritime.”
The fundraising effort forms part of a wider commitment by Women Together and The Seafarers’ Charity to promote wellbeing, diversity and inclusion across the maritime industry.

Temi Binitie encouraged continued support for the campaign, saying:
“Every contribution helps make a meaningful difference to the lives of those who keep global trade moving.”
Funds raised will support The Seafarers’ Charity’s ongoing work with seafarers and their families around the world.
