In a period of continued growth and transformation for the global cruise and maritime industry, Greece remains firmly positioned among the world’s leading destinations, combining maritime heritage, strategic geographic location, and authentic travel experiences. As international cruising continues to expand, Greece is further enhancing its role as a major hub for cruise tourism and maritime activity in the Mediterranean, supported by its extensive coastline, island diversity, modern infrastructure, and long-standing relationship with the sea.

The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) continues to support a strategic vision focused on strengthening Greece’s international presence as a modern and continuously evolving maritime and tourism destination.
Through targeted international promotion, strategic partnerships, and participation in major global events, the GNTO aims to highlight Greece’s ability to combine tourism, culture, shipping, and hospitality within a sustainable and competitive framework. This approach seeks to create meaningful and high-quality visitor experiences while supporting the long-term development of destinations across the country.

Posidonia 2026: A Global Maritime Meeting Point
A major milestone for this year, Posidonia 2026, took place in Athens from 1–5 June 2026. Recognised internationally as one of the most important maritime exhibitions worldwide, Posidonia continues to serve as a key platform connecting the global shipping community with the Greek maritime sector and the wider international market.

The 2026 edition of Posidonia welcomed more than 2,220 exhibitors from 83 countries and territories, while attracting over 40,000 participants, including visitors, media representatives, and industry professionals from 138 countries. The exhibition continues to bring together leading shipping companies, institutional organisations, investors, academics, technology providers, and decision-makers from across the maritime industry, further reinforcing Greece’s strategic role as a global maritime hub.

International Outreach and Industry Development
The international profile of Posidonia is supported by an extensive global communication strategy, including targeted digital campaigns, social media promotion, international media partnerships, search engine marketing, newsletters, and participation in major maritime events worldwide. The exhibition also promotes networking opportunities, conferences, and specialised industry discussions, contributing to the exchange of expertise and the strengthening of international cooperation across the maritime sector.
At the same time, the continued development of cruise tourism in Greece reflects broader international trends focusing on sustainability, innovation, and destination diversification. Greece’s cruise product combines internationally recognized destinations with emerging ports and coastal regions, offering visitors a wide variety of experiences throughout the year. From major homeports and iconic islands to smaller destinations rich in culture, gastronomy, and local identity, Greece continues to attract international travellers seeking authentic and diverse experiences.

A Vision for the Future
The Greek maritime and cruise sector continues to contribute significantly to tourism development and international visibility, while supporting local economies and strengthening Greece’s position within the global tourism market. Through investments in infrastructure, sustainable tourism development, and international collaboration, Greece is further establishing itself as a destination that combines maritime excellence with high-quality tourism experiences.

As the industry continues to evolve, Greece remains committed to promoting responsible tourism growth, strengthening global partnerships, and enhancing the overall visitor experience. By combining maritime tradition, innovation, culture, and hospitality, the country continues to navigate towards a dynamic future in global cruise and maritime tourism.
