A press conference at the Multipurpose City Hall concluded the two-day visit to Paleo Faliro of the ACES Europe Committee as part of evaluation of the city’s candidacy for the title of European City of Sports 2027 .

During their visit, the members of the Committee got to know the Municipality’s sports infrastructure, programs and actions firsthand. They were guided to the Municipal Sports Centre, the Sofia Befon Indoor Gymnasium, the Palaio Faliro Nautical Club, the Palaio Faliro.Lab Innovation Centre and the sports facilities of the Kopsacheila school complex, and they attended sports activities and spoke with representatives of the sports community.

The press conference presented the main axes of the candidacy and the Municipality’s vision for a modern, open and people-cantered sports city, in which sports are linked to health, education, technology, sustainable mobility and the active participation of citizens.

Central to this design is the Faliro Sport Pass , a single digital identity that will facilitate citizens’ access to sports, cultural and municipal services. At the same time, the digital twin InnoTwinAI allows the Municipality to capture and monitor how the city operates, supporting the better design of infrastructure, routes and public spaces.

The “FALIRO 1,000,000” campaign is moving in the same direction, aiming to gather one million active minutes of exercise by the sea, encouraging residents of all ages to participate and incorporate movement into their daily lives.
The goal is to leave a permanent legacy in the city in 2027, through the creation of the Sport Innovation CityLab , a vibrant mechanism for collaboration, innovation and experimentation for sports, health and better service to citizens.
The planning also includes the organisation of the International Conference on Sport for All and Sports Innovation 202, as well as the Faliro Sport, Innovation & Robotics Festival , which will bring representatives of municipalities, universities, sports organisations and technology bodies to the coastal front.

The overall coordination of the proposal was carried out by Deputy Mayor for KEP and Digital Policy Nikolaos Stathousis , while the press conference was coordinated by Deputy Mayor Mary Tryfon .
The Municipality of Paleo Faliro thanks the ACES Europe Committee for its presence and interest, as well as the sports clubs, teachers, coaches, volunteers, and everyone who contributed to the preparation and presentation of the candidacy.
The Mayor of Paleo Faliro, Yiannis Fostiropoulos, stated:
“Our candidacy expresses something much greater than claiming a European distinction. It expresses our vision for a city where sport is a right and a daily opportunity for everyone, regardless of age or physical condition. We want to connect sport with technology, education, sustainable mobility and public health, creating a model of a modern sports city by the sea. Paleo Faliro is a city that thinks big, but above all implements in practice. We aspire for 2027 to be the starting point of a permanent legacy for citizens and especially for the new generation.”
