American Maritime Industrial Coalition Releases Executive Summary of its Project 2027 Leadership Roundtable Meeting on Maritime Revitalization
Weston, CT- October 30th– AMIC (American Maritime Industrial Coalition) released the Executive Summary from its recent Houston meeting entitled “PROJECT 2027: Catalyzing the US Maritime Industry into Action”. The results of the meeting outline key action steps needed to implement the goals of the various United States government maritime goals, and were synthesized and presented by Dr. Beatriz Canamary of SuRe Strategy.
Project 2027 builds on the 2025 Leadership Roundtable’s assessment of the U.S. maritime industry. Participants at this year’s conference examined actions underway and still needed across industry, states, and the federal government to expand the U.S.-flag and U.S.-built fleet. The program featured keynote addresses from Congress, MARAD, AAPA and ABS, a Day 2 keynote by Dr. Christopher Wiernicki, retired Chairman and CEO of ABS, seven panels and two sessions of leadership roundtable discussions.
Participants highlighted progress over the past year: clearer federal policy direction, the Maritime Action Plan (MAP), MARAD’s coordination of federal priorities, initial U.S. Center for Maritime Innovation projects, and new shipbuilding programs and investment commitments. The findings are contained in a document Project_2027_Executive_Summary.
Maritime policy will also be shaped by the outcome of the November 3 midterm elections. For AMIC’s assessment of the political outlook, see Project_2027_Midterm_Outlook, by Fair Kim of Washington DC based Carlough Solutions.
Key elements of the Executive Summary include recommendations on Investable structure for private capital, the cost gap for US shipbuilding, long-term cargo and charter commitments, a distinct U.S. flag category for international trade, allied investment and co-production, clearer parameters for Maritime Prosperity Zones, long-term port investment, national coordination of workforce and communication, and opportunities for U.S. leadership in maritime nuclear.
The full report will be issued shortly, including a forward by Dr. Christopher Wiernicki, recently retired as Chairman and CEO of ABS.
