JANUARY 12, 2016 – Dr Anil Sharma, President and CEO of GMS, the world’s largest cash buyer of ships, has been named in Lloyd’s List’s annual list of the ‘Top 100 Most Influential People in Shipping’ for the sixth year running. This year, Dr Sharma was named in 58th position.

Lloyds List states that Dr Sharma’s key position of influence stems from his years as a leader in developing and championing responsible green ship recycling processes, and driving progressive change within the industry. This is in line with one of GMS’s core values in promoting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the shipping industry, and specifically working with its partners to set new health, safety and environmental standards and benchmarks of excellence in ship recycling.

Dr. Sharma commented: “I am very proud to be recognized again for the impact that GMS is having on driving a more sustainable approach to ship recycling. As the world’s largest cash buyer of ships for recycling, we are committed to making every possible effort to understand the impact of our sector, and how we can sensibly drive positive progression in line with the changing dynamics of the industry. We must all appreciate that ship recycling is not only a vital stage in the lifecycle of a vessel, but also a vital market for those that directly and indirectly depend upon it.”
Lloyd’s List also highlighted GMS’ growing ship-owning and capital investment divisions as examples of Dr Sharma’s expanding influence within the industry. Dr Sharma has appeared on the annual ‘Top 100 Most Influential People in Shipping’ every year since 2010.
