Fathom-news is pleased to announce the launch of its Smart Ship Awards, sponsored by Tototheo Maritime
The Smart Ship Awards are the first awards solely dedicated to identifying the players making a real difference in leading the digital transformation of the shipping and maritime sectors to a smart, connected future.
“This is an unprecedented period of change in our industry. A series of market and technological conditions have fallen together to make transformation a certainty,” says Craig Eason, Fathom Maritime Intelligence Editorial Director and overseer of the Smart Ship Awards judging panel. “These awards are unique in that they seek to recognise and reward those that are at the forefront of this change.”
In line with recognising the changing face of the industry, the Smart Ship Award entry process is breaking from the traditional awards model. Whilst companies can still nominate themselves, suggestions are being crowd sourced from industry with a dedicated research panel assessing suitability.
“This is not an awards ceremony for the best written entry but the most deserving pioneers in our industry” comments Eason.

Fathom has convened a singularly superior judging panel to assess the nominations under each of the four criteria to find worthy winners.
The judges come from outside the maritime industry as well as within and comprise Robert Maxwell, Managing Director at Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Singapore); Mark O’Neil, President at Columbia Marlow Shipmanagement ltd; Tim Wilkins Environment Director and Regional Manager Asia-Pacific at INTERTANKO; Christopher Hedvall, Investment Consultant, Whytewood Technologies; Patrick Verhoeven, Managing Director at International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH); Andreas Chrysostomou, V.P Government and Public Affairs at CLIA Europe.
Nominations for the four categories are now sought for leading entrepreneurial companies and people over the coming month, with the winners being formally announced on November 29th in Singapore.
The four categories in the Fathom Smart Ship Awards focus on the start-up, the enabler, the solution, and the digital changemaker. The award categories are there for anybody involved in the technological evolution of the industry.
Nominations are now open, with Fathom accepting crowd sourced ideas as well as full form entries following specific criteria found on the award nomination site. Nominations are open until November 10th, 2017.
The 4 Award Categories are:
The Start-up (this is the company with a disruptive idea that could, or is, showing elements of being disruptive)
The Enabler (a company supporting innovative ideas)
The Solution (a solution or service, office based, cloud or shipborne, and start-up or otherwise)
The Digital Changemaker (a search for the ambassador for digital development).
