PORT OPERATIONS RESUMING AFTER MANGKHUT

Construction of shore ramp & replacement of submarine cables

The working period for the construction a shore ramp and replacement of submarine cables at the entrance of Sungai Sembawang has been extended.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No.091 of 2018, the work will now be conducted between 0800 and 1900 hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – from 16 September 2018 to 15 February 2019, within the working area bounded by the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
1) 01 deg. 28.211’N / 103 deg. 48.258’E
2) 01 deg. 28.226’N / 103 deg. 48.319’E
3) 01 deg. 28.191’N / 103 deg. 48.331’E
4) 01 deg. 28.170’N / 103 deg. 48.271’E
The construction of the submarine cable ramp and replacement of submarine cables involve piling and concrete structural work. A safety boat will be deployed in the vicinity to warn other craft about the work.
Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and international day signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
a) Keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
b) Maintain a proper lookout;
c) Proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 21 (Sembawang Control);
and
e) Communicate with Sembawang Control on VHF Channel 21 for assistance, if required.

Port operations resuming after Mangkhut

Pilot Services in Hong Kong are being resumed this afternoon (17 September) following the departure of former Typhoon Mangkhut. Priority is being given to container ships berthing at Kwai Chung/Tsing Yi Terminals.
Hong Kong Observatory issued No.1 Standby Signal at 2:40pm local time, replacing the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal. Following this, tankers and other general cargo ships are expected to resume.
Mangkhut brought considerable damages to Hong Kong. There may still be risks in the surroundings. Members of the public should remain on the alert for assurance of personal safety.
