Oslo Børs: Biggest influx of newly listed companies since 2001

The combined market capitalisation of companies admitted to listing on the Oslo Børs marketplaces in 2019 was a record high, second only to 2001, when Statoil was first listed. A high level of new listing activity led to a high volume of equity capital being raised.

Calculated on the basis of their first day of admission to listing, the combined market capitalisation of newly admitted companies in 2019 was NOK 127.5 billion. 2019 therefore beat 2000, the year in which Telenor listed. 2006, when Rec was valued at NOK 57.7 billion on its first day of listing, was also a top year – see the graphic below.

15 companies were admitted to listing or trading on the Oslo Børs marketplaces in 2019. From a historical perspective this is a relatively large number, but is somewhat smaller than in recent years, as the graph below shows.

Adevinta, TietoEVRY, Hafnia and Kahoot! were the largest companies to list in 2019 – see the table below.

High volume of equity capital raised
Companies admitted to trading or listing have so far this year raised NOK 50 billion in new equity capital through share issues. NOK 16 billion of this amount was raised in connection with companies being admitted to trading or listing. This means that one third of the equity injected into public companies went to companies new to the stock market.

The amount of equity raised has been at a historically high level in recent years. If one ignores the record year of 2017, not since 2010 has more equity been raised through new share issues than in 2019 – see the graph below.
