BinForGreenSeas shares space with a Mermaid (Quay)

by admin

Earlier this month, Wales received it’s first ever BinForGreenseas in Mermaid Quay in Cardiff. This latest BinForGreenseas, is the 19th addition by GreenSeas Trust to combat ocean plastic pollution.

Mermaid Quay is an excellent choice for this endeavour as the area plays a key role in environmental preservation. In 2021, Mermaid Quay received not one, but two green apples in 2021 for their environmental work. Mermaid Quay received the prestigious award for the introduction of new uniforms made of recycled plastic bottles. Closing the loop, future uniforms could hopefully be made with bottles recycled from the new BinForGreenSeas!

Becky Jones, marketing manager at Mermaid Quay, said:

“We are extremely proud to host the first GreenSeas Trust Bin here at Mermaid Quay. This initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and the environment. By encouraging visitors to properly dispose of plastic waste, we hope to inspire a culture of awareness and action against marine pollution. Together, we can make a significant difference in preserving the natural beauty of Cardiff Bay for future generations.”

The latest BinForGreenSeas had a grand opening. Amongst the openers were: Mark Nott, Fazilette Khan, Councillor Norma Mackie, Cabinet Member for Waste, Street Scene and Environmental Services.

A spokesperson from Cardiff Council said:

“We are thrilled to have been donated this wonderful new GreenSeas Trust recycling bin for plastics in Cardiff Bay. Single-use, throw-away plastic culture is increasing at a concerning pace, and this new addition to the heart of Cardiff Bay is a positive step forward to help tackle the problem locally and reduce the wave of plastic from entering our oceans.”

GreenSeas Trust awarded the BinForGreenSeas to enable us to extend our reach and our mission to end plastic pollution across into Wales. We are very pleased the bin has been placed on this iconic waterfront, which is at the forefront of spreading the environmental message. With the extended services and attractions offered at Cardiff’s waterfront, we’re sure plenty of visitors will be encouraged to dispose of their plastic litter appropriately.
