Singapore, 07 November 2014 – Singapore Post held a groundbreaking ceremony this morning at Singapore’s Tampines LogisPark to unveil the blueprint of the SingPost Regional eCommerce Logistics Hub, an integrated facility that will serve not just Singapore but the region as well. The Regional Hub comprises a 3-storey integrated centre with fully automated parcel sorting facility, 2 warehousing floors, 150 simultaneous loading bays as well as an office block.
Dr Wolfgang Baier, Group CEO, SingPost said: “This S$182 million regional eCommerce Logistics Hub is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and our largest investment in Singapore to date. Estimated to be the size of 4.5 football fields, this three-storey, 553, 000 square feet hub will cater to the fast-growing ecommerce market here in Singapore and the region. This new Hub is designed to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity. When operational by the second half of 2016, we see a 30-40% improvement in cost efficiency over the next 10-15 years compared to current operations.”
Mr Yam Ah Mee, Managing Director, Sembcorp Design and Construction said: “It is a distinct honour for Sembcorp Design and Construction to be a part of Singapore Post’s exhilarating progress and development. The Singapore Post Regional e-Commerce Logistics Hub facility will indeed be ‘ground-breaking’ in terms of sheer size, 553, 000 square feet on this 3.25 hectare plot of land and in terms of sophistication and technology in the facilities it provides to serve Singapore Post’s customers well.”
The Hub will deploy some of the most technologically advanced and innovative automation systems which will significantly improve productivity and lead to lower cost and higher operational efficiency. For instance, the mega-sized parcel sorting facility spanning the entire floor will be fully automated for sorting, picking, packing and right up to shipping. This means faster order fulfillments. It will also have automatic data capturing and processing, full track and trace as well as automated weighing capabilities that will provide both actual and volumetric weight of the items. Automation and warehousing equipment alone cost more than S$30million.
Mr Kelvin Wong, Assistant Managing Director, EDB said: “Southeast Asia is expected to be one of the world’s fastest growing markets for e-commerce in 2014. The Hub demonstrates SingPost’s efforts in transforming itself into a competitive international e-commerce logistics player. I am happy that SingPost will be doubling its productivity through significant automation investments. I am heartened that SingPost is taking these efforts further, by test-bedding new technologies and business processes to drive productivity improvements at the Hub, making the warehouse a showcase site for e-commerce logistics in Asia.”
This new hub which brings together the ecommerce logistics capabilities and offerings of Quantium Solutions, Singapore Parcels, Lock + Store and SP eCommerce will further strengthen SingPost’s capabilities and grow its business in the region’s emerging markets. It will also strengthen Singapore’s growth capabilities as the hub for distribution into the region.
Construction of the Regional eCommerce Logistics Hub is expected to be completed by end January 2016 and fully operational in the second half of 2016.
