Guardian Maritime Limited is delighted to announce that its GUARDIAN™ anti-piracy barrier has been awarded the prestigious Horners Award for Plastics Design and Innovation.

The Horners Award is run jointly with the British Plastics Federation (BPF) and the Worshipful Company Of Horners (an ancient guild and livery company of the City of London) and is awarded for innovation in plastics design and manufacture, or in the processing of plastics. The award is believed to be the longest established Design Award for Plastics in the world, dating back to the first competition in 1947.

Teresa Stevens, Owner and Designer of GUARDIAN said “I am very proud to have been chosen for this award from the Guild of Horners, being recognised by such an esteemed guild is a great honour.  I would like to thank all those who have helped with the development of GUARDIAN including Paul Norman Plastics who guided me to the plastic Federation website. A very special thanks to Davy Green of Reduction Plastics who worked tirelessly with us to find the right compound, as well as guiding me on choice of toolmakers and manufacturers. Thanks to Total for their wonderful product 40/41 which gives GUARDIAN the properties it needs to perform to such a high standard and to The Plastic Federation for all the help and guidance I have received. Lastly our shipping clients for having recognised our product and the protection it provides for their crews and ships from acts of Piracy across the oceans of the World.”

The award was presented in a glittering ceremony held at Mansion House, by Guest of Honour Alderman Sir Michael Bear who acted as Lord Mayor Locum Tenens.

Kim Hawksworth, Marketing Exec at the BPF said “The field of entries was very strong this year, and Guardian was selected as the Judges felt that, as well as demonstrating innovative and detailed product design, the barriers show excellent innovation to solve a serious threat to shipping. We are confident it will also prove to be a great commercial success in the years to come.”
