At 500am AST (0900 UTC) the center of Hurricane Gordon was located near latitude 37.4 North, longitude 24.3 West. Gordon is moving toward the east-northeast near 15mph (24 km/h) and a gradual decrease in forward speed and a turn toward the east is expected over the next couple of days. On the forecast track, Gordon will move away from the Eastern Azores Islands later today [20 August].

Maximum sustained winds are near 75mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Gordon is a Category One hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. Gradual weakening is forecast over the next couple of days and Gordon is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone east of the Azores by Tuesday [21 August].

….Tropical storm and hurricane conditions are affecting portions of the Eastern Azores Islands. These conditions will gradually subside later this morning and afternoon as Gordon moves away from the Azores.

Gordon is expected to produce total rainfall amounts of 3-6 inches over the Central and Eastern Azores.

DATE: August 20, 2012 COUNTRY: Mozambique PORT: Nacala Port development

The northern Mozambiquan port city of Nacala is undergoing rapid change and development, which will drive development throughout Nampula province and the country in general.

Plans include the slated development by Brazilian mining giant Vale to build a new coal terminal at Nacala-a-Velha.

The terminal will be at the end of a new rail line from the Moatize coal basin in Tete province. The plan means that in the near future there will be two deep water ports in Nacala Bay.
