DATE: October 22, 2012 COUNTRY: Egypt PORT: Suez Canal Container ships transit fees
Due to the interruption of work at Sukhna port, and the fact that container ships are currently unable to unload their cargo at Sukhna and are obliged to transit the Suez Canal to discharge their cargo at any of the Egyptian Ports along to the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal Authority has decided that the above mentioned ships shall enjoy transit dues exemption on their return trip on the following conditions:
1- Ship master has to provide a statement of the number of containers coming to Sukhna port.
2- A certificate from the discharge port showing the number of containers that had been discharged and that Egypt is the destination of such containers and also showing the departure date of the container ship.
3- The container ship has to make a direct return to transit the Suez Canal southbound without carrying out any charging operations.
This circular takes effect from Oct. 22nd / 2012 and remains Valid until things get back to normal at Sukhna port.

DATE: October 22, 2012 COUNTRY: Panama PORT: Colon Demonstrations & disruption to continue and escalate
Protestors have announced they will continue demonstrations, disruptions and closures of major highways and entrances to the City of Colon, Cristobal (Atlantic sector), on a much larger scale, from today (Monday 22 October).
So far, this has not affected port operations or Panama Canal traffic as pilots and personnel are being mobilised by the water during the road closures. However, the threat exists that there could be a collateral impact on port operations and/or Panama Canal traffic.
For security reasons, GAC-Wilford & McKay’s Cristobal Office is working with a skeleton staff. For any urgent matters please contact office staff on their mobile phones. Emails will be continuously monitored.
