Dole Fresh Fruit International executive to discuss supply chain efficiency at TOC Cold Chain conference in Panama
London, 08.11.2012 – Increased foresight in product handling and communication with other stakeholders in the supply chain should be a priority for cold chain logistics partners, according to Dr Eduardo Kerbel, Director of Postharvest Handling and Technology at Dole Fresh Fruit International. “The cold chain requires an integration of practices and responsibilities from different groups: Production, Quality Control (QC), Research & Development (R&D), logistics, operations, transportation, receivers and handlers at destination, and customers” said Dr Kerbel ahead of the TOC Cold Chain conference.
Appearing at TOC Cold Chain, the perishable logistics and transport forum in Panama City on 5-6 December 2012, Dr Kerbel will emphasise the need for cross-industry collaboration during the session on ‘Best Practice in Cold Chain Operations for Reduced Spoilage, Shrinkage & Claims’.
“Too often each group deals with their own challenges and hurdles and loses perspective on how the way they handle the product affects the outcome, ” he said.
“When something goes wrong production blames transportation, transportation blames the market, customers blame sales and sales blames production, QC and even R&D. This becomes a vicious circle on who is at blame; the point of it is… everybody loses”.
Dr Kerbel will be joined by speakers representing all sectors in the container supply chain, with executives from Kraft Foods, Maersk Line, FloraHolland, APM Terminals, ZIM, Purfresh, and Damco all in attendance.
TOC Cold Chain is organised in partnership with Cool Logistics and supporters include Georgia Tech Supply Chain & Logistics Institute and the Global Cold Chain Alliance.
TOC Cold Chain takes place from 5-6 December at the El Panama Hotel, Panama City, Panama. The conference is part of the wider event TOC Container Supply Chain: Americas which takes place 4 – 6 December and brings together shippers, logistics providers, ocean carriers, ports and terminals to discuss international trade, container transport and logistics www.tocevents-americas.com
