Sheikh Khalifa Bridge air draught limitations
—————
Sheikh Khalifa Bridge – “Saadiyat Bridge” – is a critical infrastucture
constructed over “khawr Al Boghal” between the Saadiyat Island and the Abu
Dhabi City with total length of 1455m.
The width of the central span is 200m with clear provision to serve the
navigational channel with different clearances underneath where the maximum
physical clearance is considered to be under the center point of the
central span.
With immediate effect, an air draft restriction of maximum 22 meters above
MHW within 40 meters on either side of the centerline of the central span
will be enforced.
All vessels planning to pass under the bridge must declare their air
draught in advance to Mina Zayed VTS.
Vessels with air draught exceeding 22 meters are not allowed to pass under
this Bridge.
In special circumstances, and on a case by case study, an exemption for
minor allowance mat be granted provided that a proper risk assessment has
been submitted to Mina Zayed Harbour Master for his approval and
instructions.
Vessels contravening the above restrictions and requirements shall be
subject to the appropriate proceedings and sanctions under the law of UAE
and ADPC Port Management Byelaws, including applied fines, if any.
Mariners are further advised to comply in full with international
regulations for preventing collision at sea (COLREG) and to proceed,
navigate and exercise due care whilst in the vicinity of the Bridge giving
due attention for on-conming traffic using the channel.

Transit of VLCCs
—————
Laden VLCCs that cannot use the Suez Canal at present, and go around the
Cape route with oil cargoes, loaded in Algeria and in Mediterranean ports
west of Algeria, as well as the North Sea and North West Europe, are now
invited to go through the Suez Canal by unloading part of their cargo at
Arab Petroleum Pipelines Co. (Sumed) storage tanks in Sidi Krair, where the
unloaded amount can be loaded into a medium sized tanker, whereby the two
tankers (the VLCC and the medium sized tanker) can transit the Canal
southbound.
The smaller tanker shall discharge the oil in Sukhna to be reloaded to the
VLCC, and shall return in ballast through the Suez Canal northbound.
In this scenario the two tankers shall be treated as shown below:
ARTICLE ONE:
Transit dues shall be calculated as follows:
* A charge of USD 0.70 per each ton of crude oil on both tankers (the VLCC
and the lighter vessel) shall be livied with a minimum charge of USD
200, 000 for the trip when the Worldscale Rate is 35 points of less.
* If the Worldscale Rate is above points the transit dues shall be
increased by an extra USD 0.015 (five cents) for each ton of crude oil
against each extra point.
* Charges for escort tugboats and any other charges shall be applied as per
the Suez Canal Rules of Navigation and relevant circulars.
* The lighter vessel shall be exempted from transit dues on its northbound
return trip provided it is ballast and the return trip is made right after
the discharge operation at Sukhna Port and within ten days of its locaded
trip.
ARTICLE TWO:
1) Sumed has to notify the SCA of the following in good time in advance:
* Names and specs of the two tankers as well as the port of lading.
* A document that shows the monthly average for Worldscale Rate of the
VLCCs.
2) Ships that transit the Cabal shall present the following documents:
* A certificate from the port of lading for VLCC showing dates of arrival
and department and the amount of cargo.
* A certificate showing the amount of cargo that has been discharged at
Sisi Krair.
* A certificate showing the amount of cargo that had been loaded into the
medium sized tanker at Sidi Krair.
* A certificate showing the amount of cargo that had been discharged from
the medium sized tanker at Sukhna (on her return ballast trip).
ARTICLE THREE:
This circular takes effect as of its issue date and shall remain valid on
an experimental basis until 31 December 2013.
