Upper Chesapeake Channel draft back to normal
The Baltimore Maritime Exchange has advised that shoaling in the Upper Chesapeake channels as a result of Hurricane Sandy has been addressed and normal maximum drafts are now in effect again for all C&D Canal transits.
Dredging work has been completed and subsequent surveys have confirmed that, with immediate effect, the maximum safe draft for all upper Chesapeake vessel transits is once again set at 33′ fresh water MLLW.

Dredging off Shell Bukom SBM
Dredging works will be carried out off Shell Bukom SBM from 19 February to 1 April 2013.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine Notice No.18 of 2013, the works will be conducted 24 hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – within the working Area bounded by the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
1) 1° 12.830’N / 103° 46.885’E
2) 1° 12.722’N / 103° 47.023’E
3) 1° 12.609’N / 103° 47.186’E
4) 1° 12.478’N / 103° 47.274’E
5) 1° 12.330’N / 103° 47.370’E
6) 1° 12.169’N / 103° 47.441’E
7) 1° 11.999’N / 103° 47.488’E
8) 1° 12.042’N / 103° 47.277’E
9) 1° 12.243’N / 103° 47.214’E
10) 1° 12.382’N / 103° 47.135’E
11) 1° 12.509’N / 103° 47.038’E

Dredging works will be carried out by the trailer suction hopper dredger “Cornelis Zanen”. The dredger will have a circular safety working zone of 300-metre radius centred at the dredger. Dredged materials will be transported to the designated dumping ground by the same trailer suction hopper dredger.
A safety boat will be deployed in the vicinity to warn other craft to clear of the working area.
Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and international day and night signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
(a) keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
(b) maintain a proper lookout;
(c) proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
(d) maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 68 (West Control);
and
(e) Communicate with West Control on VHF Channel 68 for assistance, if required.

Reclamation work at Tuas View Extension
The working period for reclamation works at Tua View Extension has been extended. The work will now be carried out from 16 February to 15 September.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Marine Notice No.15 of 2013, the work will be conducted 24 hours daily – including Sundays & Public Holidays – within a working area bounded by the following coordinates (WGS 84 Datum):
1) 01° 14.580’N / 103° 36.340’E
2) 01° 14.580’N / 103° 36.680’E
3) 01° 14.240’N / 103° 36.680’E
4) 01° 14.240’N / 103° 37.340’E
5) 01° 12.800’N / 103° 37.980’E
6) 01° 13.180’N / 103° 36.550’E
7) 01° 13.400’N / 103° 36.340’E
The reclamation works will involve dredging by cutter suction dredger (CSD), trailer-suction-hopper-dredger (TSHD) and hopper barges. Shore protection works will be carried out by crane barges and the dredging of sand-key trench by grab dredger.
Soil investigation will be carried out within the working area.
Craft involved in the works will exhibit the appropriate local and international day and night signals.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
(a) keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
(b) maintain a proper lookout;
(c) proceed at a safe speed & navigate with caution;
(d) maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 22;
and
(e) communicate with Jurong Control on VHF Channel 22 for assistance, if required.

New shiploaders planned for port
The government of Parana has authorised the start of the bidding process for acquisition of four new shiploaders for Export Corridor of Port of Paranagua.
The new equipment will be purchased to expand the capacity of loading ships by 60%. This modernisation of the Export Corridor is expected to expedite the flow of cargo, further boosting exports.
The new shiploaders will have a nominal capacity of 2, 000 tons of grain per hour. The current equipment has a nominal capacity of 1500 tons/hour, however due to their age, they average about 1200 tons per hour.
The deadline to complete the installation of the four shiploaders is 22 months.
