Programme launched for 4th IMarEST condition based maintenance conference

by admin

imarestlogofrontpageWhen properly implemented, with the necessary buy-in from the top of an organisation, an intelligent condition based maintenance (CBM) regime reduces the residual cost of ownership, by reducing both the cost of downtime and the actual cost of maintenance.

The IMarEST Condition Based Maintenance series of conferences has established the reputation of raising the bar of the technical discussion and of moving the level of discussion onto an altogether higher level among owners and within the maritime industry.  The 4th IMarEST Condition Based Maintenance Conference, with its theme ‘A Smart Approach to Maintenance for Owners’ being held at One Great George Street, London SW1 on Wednesday 25 – Thursday 26 September 2013 will continue to explore the benefits of CBM and of how to achieve a smart approach to maintenance.

“Each of our four annual conferences on CBM has moved the discussion further along the line, ” explains David Loosley, Chief Executive Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST). “Back in 2010 we set the scene taking ‘Optimised maintenance for improved value and return on investment’ as the theme and set out to show how CBM works, and to make the business case, demonstrating that it is now the most flexible, efficient, clean – reducing emissions, safe and, most importantly, profitable approach to maintenance for owners.

“In 2011 the conference took ‘Recognising the value of systems integrity for reliability and sustainability’ as its theme; and in 2012, as CBM technologies and methods were becoming increasingly mature, vessel owners, operators, class representatives, equipment and service suppliers, and academics from ten countries from both the civil and defence sectors met to discuss ‘Removing obstacles to culture change’.

“Keynote addresses will set the scene on both days of our 4th CBM Conference, by addressing ‘The Owner’s Perspective’ on the first day; and Bernd Geropp, Managing Director, Bernd Geropp Consulting will inspire delegates with ‘You can make it happen! Clear communication as key for a successful Condition Based Maintenance Program’ on Day Two.

“This year our conference will once again be chaired by Danny Shorten MIMarEST, Lead Business Development Specialist – CBM, Lloyd’s Register; and our sessions addressing ‘Owners – what they are doing and what are their problems?’; ‘New Technical Developments’; ‘Standards and Training’; ‘Help from Class to Achieve Successful Implementation’; ‘Performance Monitoring’ and ‘Human Factors’ will give, by means of those two keynote addresses, presentations, case studies and panel discussions, an update on progress of adoption and the route to ever-increasing levels of a smart approach to maintenance.

“We look forward to welcoming delegates from all over the world to this fourth event in a highly successful series, which will once again provide opportunities for networking at the conference reception and during breaks in proceedings.”

The 4th IMarEST Condition Based Maintenance Conference is sponsored by CMT, DMSI, IFM Electronic, Mimic and SPM with InterManager and The Nautical Institute as supporting organisations. The conference is eligible for Continuing Professional Development.
