Underwater repair pioneers HYDREX have appointed UK-based WHALE TECHNOLOGIES as their agent in the UK, to deal with both underwater repair contracts and the revolutionary ECOSPEED hull coating.

Whale Technologies is an innovation and technology company specialising in condition monitoring, energy efficiency, failure analysis, engineering solutions and training. Whale is a ‘spin in’ company to The University of Huddersfield, which allows them to harness the University’s world class research and development capabilities across all disciplines.

The new partnership enables WHALE to supply HYDREX’s fast-response go-anywhere repairs to propellers, rudders, thrusters, seals and damaged hulls. WHALE will also arrange new and old-build coatings with the fuel-efficient and ultra-durable ECOSPEED glass-flake system.

HYDREX CEO Boud Van Rompay says: “As market leaders in underwater repair we are expanding our network to keep pace with demand. We are impressed with Whale Technologies experience and depth of technical knowledge. As the hull coatings market is moving away from biocidal anti-fouling we are also gearing up for increased take-up of ECOSPEED, especially in ice-going conditions.”

Whale Technologies is based in the Huddersfield University Innovation Centre. Managing Director Bill Page says : “We stay in close touch with the leading edge of marine technology. There is no doubt that the groundbreaking repair systems developed by HYDREX are leading the industry. The coating technology in ECOSPEED also deliver top-class fuel efficiency combined with durability that will last the lifespan of the vessel, and we look forward to providing our clients with the best of both worlds, while at the same time contributing to cleaner seas.”
