Today, award-winning logistics specialist SBS Worldwide celebrates its 30th anniversary. It is one of the largest freight forwarders still operating as a privately-owned and managed company in the UK.

The secret of its success? Innovation.
Company founder and Chairman Steve Walker explains: “Innovation drives business. Don’t expect your service offering to remain the same and still be acceptable. The competition always catches up.”

Steve Walker launched the business in 1983 as S Black Shipping, operating eastbound ocean freight consolidations between the UK and US – and this transatlantic trade lane remains one of the company’s strongest markets.

Over the years it has also expanded both into airfreight, express and supply chain services, as well as into new markets in China and continental Europe. It has established partnerships with logistics companies in various destinations around the world to enable it to offer global services.
“Every step of the way, we have expanded to service the business needs of our customers. We have grown in partnership with them – our success depends on their success.” says Steve Walker.
In 1988 the business adopted the name SBS Worldwide and by 1990 it had opened an airfreight division at London’s Heathrow airport. In 1998 it opened an office in Chicago and now has four facilities in the US as well as offices and warehouses in Hong Kong and China.

Today, SBS Worldwide has more than 250 staff. It still strives to consistently outperform in its market sector, to achieve the strategic and financial objectives of its customers and by continuing to develop innovative solutions.
“We have developed a game changer in our new software, eDC, ” says Steve Walker. “Flexibility, adaptability and creativity have made us all think differently and offer solutions beyond just shipping freight. This is the innovation our customers are looking for.”

As part of today’s celebrations, SBS Worldwide has created an interactive game hosted on its website http://www.sbsworldwide.com/anniversary-game/
SBS Worldwide plans to continue to play a vital role in its customers’ supply chains, accomplishing growth through sales and value creation across its business units for another 30 years to come
