Major new South Korean order for Bestobell

Actuated globe valve with Emerson actuator in productionBestobell Marine, part of the President Engineering Group Ltd (PEGL), has secured a major new order for its cryogenic globe, check and FLIV valves with South Korean shipbuilding company DSME, as part of a multimillion dollar deal.

The order includes five ship sets of valves that will be fitted on the 173K LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) Carrier being constructed for Teekay LNG Partners LP of Canada*, with the vessel due for delivery during the first half of 2016.

The new vessels will be constructed with M-type, electronically controlled, gas injection (MEGI) twin engines, which are expected to be significantly more fuel efficient and have lower emission levels than other engines currently being utilized in LNG shipping.  This is the first time any LNG Carrier will have been fitted with this innovative type of engine that has significant environmental benefits.

Bestobell Marine has a strong relationship with DSME, to which it has supplied valves for almost 50 new build vessels.  Bestobell’s innovative FLIV valve is extremely popular with DSME, as the company recognised its ease of installation and small footprint.

The FLIV valve is used to isolate the cargo tanks from the secondary float measurement system.

Duncan Gaskin, Sales Director for Bestobell Marine, said: “It is fantastic to have secured this major new order with DSME, one of the largest shipbuilding companies in South Korea.  We are especially pleased to be involved with the supply of valves for one of the first low emission level engines in the history of LNG shipping. We are seeing increasing demand for our valves in the marine sector and expect to secure major new opportunities for expansion into the Japanese market for new build vessels.  It looks set to be a very busy year ahead for our marine division!”

This latest contract follows Bestobell securing an agreement in 2013 to supply Globe and Check valves to DSME for one of the world’s first Floating, Storage & Re-gasification Units (FSRU) in a deal worth $500k.

Valves from Bestobell were specified because the company demonstrated its expertise in this type of marine application and its extensive range of valves to meet the client’s demands.

Bestobell Valves has been a world-leader in the manufacture of cryogenic valves for industrial gas applications for over 50 years and has 15 years’ experience in supplying to the LNG marine markets.  Bestobell’s Valves are widely used on LNG Carriers, FLNG (Floating Production & Storage Units) and FSRUs (Floating, Storage & Re-gasification Units).  Bestobell’s Marine division designs and produces valves to meet specific requirements in the marine sector and has supplied cryogenic valves to a majority of the major shipyards building LNG Carriers.
