Delays are possible at the Brunsbuettel Locks in the Kiel Canal today (20 March), after the Big North Lock Chamber was taken out of service following a heavy collision at the No.3 lock gate.

Upper Texas coast fog update (20 March)
March 20, 2015, United States, Galveston, Texas

Fog persists along the Upper Texas Coast, especially offshore Galveston. However, the Bay area is patchy, and little change is expected today (20 March) with more fog expected this evening and overnight.

Rain is still well to the north, but a slow moving cold front will arrive on Saturday, bringing heavy rain and easterly winds. The threat of fog remains until Saturday afternoon.

Temporary marine traffic arrangement
March 20, 2015, Hong Kong, Hong Kong

To facilitate the pile cap construction works at the navigation channels across the works area of the Hong Kong Link Road, the following temporary marine traffic arrangement will be implemented from 0600 hours to 2359 hours on 22 March 2015 and 4 April 2015 respectively:

(i) The southwest-bound channel will be temporarily closed to marine traffic.

(ii) The northeast-bound channel will be temporarily opened for vessels to run across the works area of the Hong Kong Link Road from both directions.

(iii) Guard boats will be stationed at the approaches to the navigation channels to give necessary guidance to the vessels approaching the navigation channels.

(iv) In the event of inclement weather, the pile cap construction works at the navigation channels will be postponed to the fallback dates of 24 March 2015 and 6 April 2015 respectively, with the same temporary marine traffic arrangement as aforementioned.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and follow the guidance given by the guard boats on scene.

Procedure for storage of weapons
March 20, 2015, Egypt, Safaga

The procedure for declaring and storing weapons and equipment at Safaga navy base, in effect since yesterday (19 March) for all ships coming into Egyptian Red Sea ports or transiting the Suez Canal, is as follows:

The RV Point is at 26.41.2 North/34.1.5 East.

The vessel’s agent should notify Safaga navy base with ETA at the RV Point at least 72 hours prior to arrival.

The following documents should be submitted prior to the vessel’s arrival:

– weapons/equipment list

– copy of ship’s registry certificate

– ship’s particulars

– ship’s crew list.

The agent representatives will attend for landing, storage and re-delivery of weapons/equipment.

For weapons/equipment already in storage at Port Suez, there is no time limit for collecting the same. Collection from Port Suez is subject to forthcoming operation according to:

– cost of landing/re-delivery the weapons:

– USD 2000 for first month storage, and USD 1000 for each additional month or part thereof (under negotiation).
