The amendment to SOLAS Chapter VI, Regulation 2 will be in force in Hong Kong on 1 July 2016. The amendment requires mandatory verification of the gross mass (VGM) of containers prior to loading onto vessels to which SOLAS Chapter VI applies.The Marine Department has updated its website with information relevant to the VGM requirements. Vessel loading and discharging at the port of Tutunciftik is continuing as normal and without any problems today (18 April), despite a fire which broke out at the TUPRAS refinery crude oil unit during maintenance works at 22:40 hours last night (17 April).The TUPRAS fire fighting unit responded immediately and the fire was extinguished by 23:45 hours, however initial reports state that one worker died and four were hospitalised with severe burns.For information about operations in Turkey, contact GAC Hong Kong at turkey@gac.com |

From 1 May 2016, export and import declarations will be required for all freight moving to and from the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS).All goods destined for the UKCS will not be loaded onto vessels without prior permission to load from Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC).Goods discharged from vessels that have arrived from the UKCS will not leave the quay until customs cleared with HMRC.
