by admin

The “Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” remains in the Peloponnese and following the town of Aigio, it now moves on to the famous city of Sparta. There the Campaign will be carried out from 25 April to 9 May 2017 under the auspices of the Regional Authority of Lakonia/ Region of Peloponnese.

This initiative is supported by Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF) and has already visited 23 Greek towns and cities since 2011, mobilising more than 24,000 students and 1,700 teachers. Besides raising awareness among schoolchildren and teachers of the Greek periphery on the themes of the Campaign, the aim of this initiative is also to inspire children to learn more about science, engineering and new technologies in the service of the environment and humanity.

The Campaign’s environmental Exhibition will be hosted at the headquarters of the Regional Authority of Lakonia. The opening of the Exhibition will take place on Tuesday 25 April, at 12.00. It will remain open daily for schools from 09.00 to 13.00 and for the public until 15.00.

In cooperation with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Lakonia, HELMEPA will transport approximately 1,000 pupils of local Primary and High Schools on the Campaign’s expenses. Also, a ‘train-the-trainer’ Seminar for Teachers titled “The marine environment and us: ensuring a sustainable future” is scheduled, while other voluntary actions will also take place in cooperation with the Education Directorates of Lakonia and local stakeholders.
