The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained an unprecedented – for the period and time we go through, 62 points plus and now reads 1,382 points, thanks to the as ever volatile Capers who managed to …sky-rock today with 221 points. Geopolitics continue to deteriorate and as many ostracize, this stanch might bring incalculable repercussions for all on Planet Ocean and conversely for business. John Faraclas’ daily recap:
The Capers as said sky-rocked and the BCI now stands at 2,888… One thing to say is that volatile spikes of this kind are both dangerous and temporary hence caution should be preserved.
The Panamaxes followed suit with 69 plus points and the BPI now reads 1,345 points…
These two sizes play a pivotal role but a dangerous one too. One or two sizes cannot dictate the markets nor create a market.
The Supras continued to fall; the BSI lost three points, a contained fall and now reads 965…
The Handies too with minimal though losses; the BHSI lost two points and now reads 607 points.
Is this a reverse, a market correction or what? We are as always cautious given that there isn’t as yet much steam so we can see the BDI over and above the 2,000 points…
We are optimistic that the dry markets will eventually reach the 2,000 mark, but newbuilding oversupply – a good component though for the very very very few, will destroy the lot… we need newbuildings and as said last week, I am optimistic that the few will make it… You see the lack of risk assessment killed the hoi polloi – an expected disaster to happen. The gurus failed to assist the lot… Geopolitics play an important role and it seems to me that the gurus and analysts didn’t have the right people to tell them what’s happening…
The Wets once again with mixed feelings; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) saw the Dirties gain just two points – now reading 760 an the Cleans losing a dozen points – now standing at 622. Again we are optimistic but only for the very few. The lot is destined to loose! Just wait and see…
The Geopolitics are getting off hand and shipping is greatly affected by all issues we have currently in our ..menu: MIGRANTS, the Middle East Wars, Piracy, Terrorism, BREXIT, and a very bad global economy. Add the ever “popular” …theme of the Energy jargon… The Environment … One must know and have people in high placRotterdames and, above all, have the absolute right info as big money are right now changing hands for various reasons… Soon the shit will hit the fan…
The day had also five centum of the news devoted to Despina Panayiotou-Theodosiou becoming WISTA-International new president during the 37th AGM Conference of WISTAs in Rotterdam!
Have a nice evening, enjoy the full moon and be on guard for every eventuality emanating from Pirates and Terrorists world wide.
