A high profile presentation entitled “The Insurance Perspective of Marine Disasters” was organised by Chios Marine Club at the Angelicoussis Group auditorium, on November 1, 2017. The event was sponsored by SM Sigma Maritime Technical Consultants and presented by the Swedish Club Greece.
The keynote speaker, Stelios Magkanaris, Fellow of the Association of Average Adjusters, provided an overview of the relevant policies and practices adopted in marine insurance contracts. Mr Magkanaris went on to present practical case studies of how casualties were viewed from the insurers’ perspective and the ensuing complexities and considerations .
The event began with a brief introduction by Konstantinos Vasileiadis, president of Chios Marine Club, who addressed the importance of planning further events such as these, as they provide the shipping industry with specialist experience and knowledge.
Manos Strongilos, mechanical and marine engineer, director of SM Sigma Maritime Technical Consultants, and member of the Chios Marine Club contributed many insights gained from his career, as a superintendent engineer and as the former technical manager of the Swedish Club Greece.
Maria Yiassa, senior underwriter of the Swedish Club, offered a comprehensive description of the club’s background and fields of activity in the global and Greek shipping communities.
At the close, Mr Vasileiadis presented Ms Yiassa and Mr Magkanaris with mementoes of the Chios Marine Club coat of arms. A reception sponsored by SM Sigma Maritime Technical Consultants added to the warm and friendly atmosphere at the auditorium, giving guests the opportunity to discuss and exchange their experiences on the interesting topics raised earlier.
