John Faraclas

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) fell another ten points losing the threshold of the 1,500 points but doesn’t look  too worrying unless… The Geopolitics on the same level as yesterday with the Economic mess ready to engulf Planet Ocean and make the World suffer for another ten years. John Faraclas’ midweek recap:

The Capes’ BCI was down 12 points and now stands at 1,949…

The Panamaxes BPI  clinched two points and now reads   1,749…

Supras continued its upwards move with the BSI gaining two more points and now at 1,205 feels comfortable! No worries here!

The Handies’ BHSI was up four points and at 647 feels safe!

The gap widens: 2,247 (end of Dec 2103) minus 1,493 (today)= 754 points… As and when we see this gap eliminated be on guard…

The Wets on the plus; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at  875 +17  and  592 plus two.

The WTI thanks to … Posidon fell at US$ 73.01 …but don’t count your eggs before they are thatched…

Stock markets fall… Caution!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geopoliticaly the mess continues…:

MIGRANTS: messy messy and expect a dangerous outcome…

Gib to Afghanistan and Caucuses to the Horn of Africa… mind d the Middle East gap…

Turkey, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and the Balkans: expect developments…

BREXIT: are we going to see any deal by next of next week?

At the other side of the Atlantic: brace for Hurricane Michael hitting Florida.

Trade Wars and Tariffs etc: on the up.

Environment: be ready for surprises which will affect shipping too.

Enjoying the excellent cooked fish-food and wines

On another tone and note …and in preparation to the 2018 Lloyd’s List Greek Shipping Awards the organisers hosted a press lunch to update us on this year’s activities. The place: Margaro (Lazarus) fish restaurant and a place of reference for the international shipping fraternity!

A good turn-out with 20 press and media representatives  participating and taking also part like in previous years on the Predictions Competition with a chance to win an interesting prize: a diner for two at the Premier Restaurant in Athens’ InterContinental Hotel… Awaiting for the winner!!
