“The peoples of the Mediterranean began to emerge from barbarism when they learnt to cultivate the olive and the vine” – Thucydides
What is it that makes Greek wine great today?
Well, to begin with, the number of stories it delivers to the modern wine consumer. Stories about the people, the winemakers, the agonies and the vintages. Stories about the unbelievable number of grape varieties planted in the Greek vineyards, and the exciting terroirs in which they are planted. Stories about the unique tastes and flavours that originate from these amazing, sometimes difficult to cultivate, terroirs.
Ranging from the volcanic Assyrtiko of Santorini, to the mineral Xinomavro and the velvety Agiorgitiko, or the luscious Malagousia and the ethereal Moschofilero to the indigenous “treasures” of the Aegean and Ionian sea, the new generation of Greek wines is making a strong statement about its authentic, individual and distinctive character.
These wines definitely deserve their own place in the global wine scene. And definitely a place in your heart…
We very warmly invite you to visit more than 35 wine producers from Greece, who will be exhibiting at the Greek national pavilion at this year’s International London Wine Fair.
