INCIDENTS INVOLVING SHIPS UNDERWAY IN SINGAPORE STRAIT EASTBOUND LANE

The working area for works being conducted at Tuas Western Coast has been revised.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Port Marine Notice No.002 of 2020, until 19 July 2020, the works are being carried out 24 hours daily – including Sundays and Public Holidays – within the working area bounded by the following coordinates (WGS 84 Datum):

The work involves dredging and dumping operations, and also includes:
– Installation, shifting and maintenance of navigational buoys.
– Shifting, installation and maintenance of temporary jetty within the working area.
– Construction and maintenance of silt barricade within working area.
– Removal of rocks at existing revetments and construction of rock revetments.
– Re-handling works within working area.
– Sand re-handling works from APTE1 to TWC reclamation area.
– Receiving of external sand.
– Survey: Pre/Post survey, Interim, Progress (Monthly) and 3 monthly survey.
– Transportation and Dumping of Dredged material from TWC to TTP2.
A safety boat will be deployed in the vicinity of the working area to warn other craft and vessels of the work.
When in the vicinity of the working area, mariners are reminded to:
a) Keep well clear and not to enter the working area;
b) Maintain a proper lookout;
c) Proceed at a safe speed and navigate with caution;
d) Maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 22 (Jurong Control);
and
e) Communicate with Jurong Control on VHF Channel 22 for assistance, if required.

Incidents involving ships underway in Singapore Strait eastbound lane

The ReCAAP [Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia] Information Sharing Centre (ISC) has released an incident alert recently for incidents involving ships while underway in the eastbound lane of Singapore Strait.
On 18 January 2020, two incidents occurred within an interval of five hours to the same barge carrying scrap metal while underway in the eastbound lane of Singapore Strait. In both incidents, the perpetrators stole some scrap metal. There was no confrontation between the perpetrators and the crew.
With these two incidents, a total of three incidents have been reported in the Singapore Strait since January 2020. The first incident in 2020 occurred on 8 January 2020 to tanker, British Mariner while underway in the eastbound lane of the TSS in the Singapore Strait.
ReCAAP strongly advised all ships to exercise utmost vigilance, adopt extra precautionary measures and report all incidents immediately to the nearest coastal State.
