“Positive” Dry hiccups, low Wets; Geopolitics and advancing Coronavirus in need of strenuous efforts for a balancing act…

The BDI (Baltic Dry Index) gained 11 points since yesterday and now reads 1,413, thanks once again to the Capes. The combination of Geopolitics and Coronavirus slowly but steadily brings chaos all over Planet Ocean. John Faraclas’ brief recap:

The Capes’ BCI was up 32 points at 2,244 – nothing spectacular to ensure a positive continuation upwards…

Four valuable points plus for the Panamaxes’ BPI –  now a fraction away from the 1,300 points threshold. At 1,295 things  “looks” safe, but…

Four points down for the Supras’ BSI now at 968…

No change for the Handies’ BHSI still a 596…

Mixed feelings for the low “levelled” Wets; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 426 – plus one and 330 – minus four points respectively…

The WTI, “thanks”  to Posidon, fell two cents and now reads US$ 38.69!

The Geopolitics of the absurd is what we witness every single day. The industrial world and the world economy relies only to war and this is where we are heading. That includes in our humble view the biological one, with Coronavirus (Covid-19) leading to a pandemic… We hope somebody comes back and tell us something else… The international public is losing trust to politicians. As you can all see: The Coronavirus anathema is here to stay.

Mind also the religious issues, which can spark civil unrest. All things being equal, today’s religions and wrong “beliefs” as well as ignorance will lead to a mess and coupled with Racism will produce a lethal cocktail with incalculable repercussions to humanity. AND there are some clever dicks and in the name of any freedom provoke… Frictions can provoke explosive situations… In the ancient Greek philosophy the message you get is: ways of life and the “religions”… Socrates drank the conium so that he could stick to his beliefs… The 12 Olympian Gods, together with the Greek Philosophers and the public “entertainers” of drama and comedy can teach you a lot… Just go back to the “drawing” board and see…

Migrants remain the top issue and although easy to control, on purpose some clever dicks allow same to escalate… As in all cases, there is the bright side too for MIGRANTS: six American immigrants did it again like in 2016 and clinched respective Nobel Prizes…

CAUTION on MIGRANTS, they remain of paramount importance and some incidents lately have caused mess worldwide…

Once again, we raise the ALARM on the faulty line from Gib to Afghanistan and from the Caucuses down to the Horn of Africa… Ten main open conflicts and five more to come… CAUTION… Turkey’s president MUST come down to his senses before he comes down to his knees… as well as his bankrupt nation.  He stirs up too many things including religion and interprets same in his own way… Respect to the human life is paramount; it is not the Freedom of Speech at stake, but the Right to appropriately and respectfully express yourself in any society no matter the religious denomination or better say pattern of religion…

Turkey is causing a mess for all in a radius of 1,500 miles around its borders.

The UN Security Council MUST work day and night to diffuse this situation before it is too late and we will NOT accept any excuse whatsoever.- (full stop and period).

Cyprus and Greece as well as Syria and the Kurds  – spread in four countries (Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria) cannot be continuously under duress and pestered by Turkey, nor Armenia… CAUTION.

The USA, Russia and the EU together with NATO must end this despicable Turkish mess… Did I hear you say boomerang?

BREXIT continues to be a thorny issue and lets see how same will end…

Still the European Union in disarray…

At the other side of the Atlantic, voting continues in tandem with the pre-election presidential election… Trump or Biden doesn’t make any difference whatsoever… we all await the aftermath.. “Don’t cry for me America” is a possible scenario as most western media people tell us…

China wishes to dominate the Far East but it is not just the South China Sea; Taiwan flexes its muscles too with American aid but watch out Japan and North Korea.

Still no change in Africa…

More news tomorrow…

Coronavirus will destroy like Katrina a great deal on Planet Ocean,– a hurricane which caused havoc in 2006 killing 1,800 people and damages were in the tune of US$ 125 billion – both in human life and infrastructure/economy due to bankruptcies… CAUTION. The next two months are more than crucial. We need DISCIPLINE and RESPONSIBILITY!!!!

Virtual reality at its best

On another tone and note we had the PPL Networks e-Summit 2020 in Hong Kong. Great and important issues were discussed on a conference designed to bring together all leading shipping and logistics stakeholders to discuss for two days – but also to use the platform until end of November, high level strategies addressing the daunting challenges of this post-covid era.

An interesting welcome message by Koen Roevers, PPL Neworks’ CEO, despite bad reception given IT issues.

Koen Roevers, PPL Neworks’ CEO

On Leadership – out of the box approach towards objective management in tune with the challenges of current times. True Partnership by Reynir Gislason was fine too; a difficult issue given in my humble view the Geopolitical upheaval.

Another excellent presentation by Manuel Theophilus, which had too much internet interference Northern JSC and couldn’t hear it…

Jon Palson’s paper on the Digitalised Shipping World– opportunities and threats for the freight forwarding business. How can we strengthen our business together, was fine but regret again with very bad reception…

Irene Rosberg

Irene Rosberg, Director of Executive MBA in Shipping and Logistics (The Blue MBA) at the Copenhagen Business School, was more than clear and emphatic delivering excellent points on Investing in Management Skills. It wasn’t a very clear presentation too due to transmission interference and technical issues, but managed to hear an important point: selecting the best lecturers! Add having top students in high positions within their companies. Indeed this is the number one ingredient for Universities, particularly of the calibre of CBS and we must ensure all choose the best practitioners for this purpose. Well done!

We hope to have from the organisers a report, as the general theme was great but staying awaken to attend and having a bad reception was an issue. Hope these technical problems to be rectified. Congratulations though to the organisers and speakers; there was a good attendance.

That’s all for tonight, have a nice evening ensuring you continue to remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and any Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean.  Once again a big THANK YOU to all who really care for all humans – Doctors, Nurses, Seafarers, Dockers, Port Authorities et al during this Coronavirus disaster!! We repeat: Do please invest in Hospitals including Equipment, Doctors, Nurses and any useful means to avoid further disasters! Become more disciplined and care for the Environment too. Lastly: Education and Training for all to be able to tackle these disasters. Let’s work collectively together and NOT opt for a fistful of Dollars to restart the already collapsed global economy… which is in red US$ 270 (twohundredandseventy) trillion…-
