Commentary: South Africa unearths hidden strengths during pandemic

This October, OMFIF and ABSA launch the fifth edition of the ABSA Africa Financial Markets Index, the region’s financial market development benchmark. South Africa, the index’s top scorer, is steering through the Covid-19 crisis better than initially expected. Its fiscal deficit is lower than was predicted at the beginning of the pandemic, and the country is projected to experience a more robust recovery in 2021.

Meeting: NGEU recovery and resilience plans for Spain and Croatia

Tuesday 29 June, 10:30-11:30 BST

Following the issuance of the Next Generation EU fund, focus has shifted to how this will be spent by member states and how the European Commission will monitor this. Gabriele Giudice, head of unit for Croatia and Spain, Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs at the European Commission, will discuss the implementation and progress of the new Recovery and Resilience Facility and the SURE temporary support in those two countries.
