Shipping leaders set to reunite in person at IMO for LISW21 Headline Conference

The London headquarters of the International Maritime Organization

Shipping industry movers and shakers are set to reunite in person to explore the fundamental role that the ESG agenda has in shaping the future of the global shipping industry as London International Shipping Week 2021 (LISW21) confirms its Headline Conference will go ahead in the prestigious headquarters of the International Maritime Organization on Wednesday September 15.

Enjoying the full support of the UK Government, the 700-capacity conference already has a number of big-hitting keynote speakers including The Rt Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP, UK International Champion on Adaptation and Resilience for the COP26 Presidency and Minister of State for Business, Energy and Clean Growth.

They will be joined by IMO Secretary General Kitack Lim and numerous leaders from throughout the international shipping industry including Sabrina Chao, President of BIMCO; Jan Dieleman, President of Cargill Ocean Tankers; Jens Martin Jensen, CEO of Athenian Holdings; Guy Platten, Secretary-General of the International Chamber of Shipping; Kathi Stanzel, Managing Director of Intertanko; and Yee Yang Chien, President of MISC.

Building on the central theme of ‘Driving Growth and Recovery in a Disrupted World’, the packed programme will explore the crucial environmental issues influencing shipping’s future development and the road to COP26, as well as dissecting the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on international trade and global economic pressures.

London’s role at the heart of international shipping will be examined in a post-Brexit era, and the conference will also examine how finance, technology and innovation, regulations, people and skills, are key drivers on the international maritime industry.

In addition to three high-impact panel discussions, the day-long conference will satisfy shipping’s burning desire for in-person networking with a closing drinks reception on the IMO’s scenic roof-terrace which provides outstanding views of London’s Houses of Parliament  and River Thames.

Jos Standerwick, CEO of Maritime London and Chairman of the LISW21 Conference Working Group, said: “We are excited to confirm our plans for this year’s long-awaited LISW Headline Conference and look forward to welcoming many delegates to the iconic IMO building for a dynamic day of debate. While the Government has given us the green light to proceed with this much-needed in-person event, we also have many Covid-safe measures in place to ensure the safety of all our guests. And for those in the industry still unable to travel, our pioneering LISW21 portal provides a streamlined method of attending the event virtually in order not to miss out on these important discussions.”
