03 December 2024 – ESPO congratulates bremenports (Germany) on their recertification under the EcoPorts’ environmental management standard (PERS). The Ports of Bremen joined the EcoPorts network in 2011 and have now earned PERS certification for an outstanding seventh time.

Isabelle Ryckbost, ESPO Secretary General, commented:“Being PERS Certified for the seventh time, I think we can easily say that bremenports have environmental responsibility and engagement in their genes. I have witnessed that myself during the last Envoconnect Conference they have been organising. We are very proud to count bremenports as part of our Ecoports network”

Anaëlle Boudry, ESPO Senior Policy Advisor and EcoPorts Coordinator, said: “We are honoured to award bremenports with the PERS certificate for the seventh consecutive time since 2011. Their exceptional environmental performance continues to impress, showcasing bremenports as a great example of how European ports are tackling environmental and climate change challenges.”

PERS (Port Environmental Review System) is the only port-specific environmental standard. The last five years have seen important increases in its recognition and membership, with 92 ports from 26 countries currently counting themselves as part of the EcoPorts Network, and 36 ports holding PERS certification. Compliance with the EcoPorts’ PERS standard is independently assessed by LRQA Nederland B.V. and the certificate has a validity of two years. EcoPorts’ PERS is revised after the 2-year period, ensuring ports continuously meet the requirements.
