It has been announced that 2,965 inspections were carried out from June to mid-July, 2025 by Coast Guard officers at recreational watercraft rental businesses. The survey found 265 violations, and fines totalling 79,760 euros were imposed in accordance with the provisions of the Port Code 20. These inspections are part of the broader plan of intensified supervision and security implemented by the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy.
At the same time, as regards lifeguard coverage at the country’s 663 leisure beaches, over 99% have already been checked, with 89% of the beaches having an established and active lifeguard presence. This is one of the best outcomes in recent years, the result of systematic coordination, continuous pressure on the bodies involved and targeted interventions.
“Safety at sea and on beaches is not only an obligation, it is a matter of public responsibility. We are not complacent, we are not making concessions. With intensive controls, clear instructions and rapid implementation of the plan, we ensure that the summer for Greeks and our visitors is safe and functional,” emphasised the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Vasilis Kikilias, noting that the Ministry remains on operational alert throughout the tourist season.
