Swedish sailor Rebecca Netzler has officially retired from the 49erFX class and will not continue her Olympic campaign. After winning a World Championship title and securing a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics with Vilma Bobeck, Netzler is closing this chapter of her career on a high.
Reflecting on the journey, she shared:
“I feel a mix of emotions, but mostly proud and happy to have had such an amazing time and met so many incredible people.”
Looking back at her biggest moments, Netzler said the Worlds in Den Haag stands out:
“Our build up to the event was far away from perfect with a lot of uncertainty and injuries but we were capable of making each other better when we needed it the most.”
On stepping away, she admitted:
“The first week of the decision I couldn’t even say the words without never ending crying… It is scary to let go.”
