Marine Chandlery, proudly based in the North East, is excited to share the news of its acquisition of Powerhouse Marine Ltd.

In early 2024, Marine Chandlery was established following the acquisition of Storrar Marine, a long-standing North East chandlery trusted by the maritime community for decades. Recognising the opportunity to continue this legacy, Geoff Moore, owner and Managing Director of Marine Chandlery, set out to serve the local maritime community while delivering the same high level of service that Storrar Marine’s customers had come to rely on.

By June 2024, Marine Chandlery had opened its doors at the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Shields, where it has quickly gained momentum and established itself as a go-to destination for both marine enthusiasts and industry professionals. Blending personalised, in-store expertise with improved digital accessibility, Marine Chandlery continues to serve the diverse needs of boat owners across the region and beyond.

As part of Marine Chandlery’s strategic growth plan, the company purchased the assets of Brixham based company Bayside Marine in late November 2024 with the stock transfer completed in early December. Bayside Marine, a well-established name and business in the marine industry, has served the boating community in the Brixham area for over 20 years with dedication and expertise.

Now, the acquisition of Powerhouse Marine Ltd marks another exciting milestone in Marine Chandlery’s growth journey – having purchased the two largest companies in the North East region.

Since 1987, Powerhouse Marine Ltd has been dedicated to keeping customers on the water by providing expertise in the sale, service, spares and repairs of all marine related products. The company initially focused solely on servicing and repairing all makes of marine engines, both in board and outboard, petrol and diesel but grew to position themselves as a local leisure boat engine and parts specialist. In 1998 Powerhouse Marine opened a dedicated showroom at the Derwenthaugh Marina in Blaydon, giving them direct access to marine facilities for testing and servicing related work. This is also when Powerhouse Marine added offerings such as jet skis, kayaks, trailers and more to their customers.

Geoff Moore, owner of Marine Chandlery said: “Marine Chandlery has achieved remarkable growth in a short time, focusing on in-store and e-commerce sales of a wide variety of marine products, and establishing our servicing department. With the acquisition of Powerhouse Marine, we are determined to expand our service offering, and to carry forward their long-standing tradition of excellence and continue serving the maritime community in the North East and beyond for decades to come.

Mike Newbold, Owner of Powerhouse Marine Ltd commented “I’m thrilled that the business is going to another local marine business, and I am sure they will have as much success as I have had over the years. I know that the Marine Chandlery team will look after our loyal customers, and I look forward to becoming a customer myself for parts and servicing of my own boat”.

Powerhouse Marine’s doors in Blaydon are now closed to customers, with their full servicing team, tools and knowledge having moved to Marine Chandlery’s North Shields site.
