The Eugenides Foundation welcomed on Friday, May 15, 2026, 39 students from the Merchant Marine Academy (AEN) of Michaniona, specifically from the 3rd Semester of the Engineering specialty, as part of an educational visit aimed at strengthening maritime education and familiarizing them with modern technologies and practices in the sector. The students were accompanied by the Director of the School of Engineering of AEN Michaniona, Mr. Charalambos Iakinthos, and Professor, Ms. Maria Vassiliadou. The group was welcomed by the President of the Eugenides Foundation and IMO Maritime Ambassador in Greece, Mr. Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenidis, as well as the Governor of the Foundation, Professor Mr. Ioannis Golias.
During the meeting, a substantive and open dialogue developed, with students sharing their expectations, ambitions and concerns regarding the maritime profession and the challenges of modern shipping. Afterwards, the participants attended a comprehensive educational program at the Institute for Training and Skills Development – Lifelong Learning Center of the Eugenides Foundation, which included thematic modules such as: – Basic principles of automation in a tanker engine room – Engine Room Resource Management (ERM), with emphasis on communication, leadership and crisis management – Modern approaches to cybersecurity in the maritime sector
The program was accompanied by a planetarium projection in the Foundation’s dome, a tour of 57 interactive exhibits in the Science and Technology Center, as well as an experiential activity utilizing VR technologies – Simulation – Safety – Firefighting in a ship’s engine room.
This specific visit is part of the Eugenides Foundation’s ongoing effort to strengthen maritime education and bring young people into contact with knowledge, innovation and modern developments in shipping.
